Why the first night matters
Water does most of its spreading in the first hours. It wicks up drywall, runs under baseboards, soaks the pad under carpet and finds its way into the next room along the slab. Clean water left sitting also becomes less clean over time, which changes what can be dried in place and what has to come out.
That is why a 24 hour service focuses on two things first: making sure the source is stopped, and getting standing water out. Fine drying and repairs come later.
What a 24 hour crew does on arrival
- 1
Safety check
Looks for electrical risk, ceiling sag and contamination before anyone works in the room.
- 2
Source confirmed
Confirms the water is off at the right valve, or arranges a plumber.
- 3
Photos and readings
Records the damage and takes moisture readings so there is a starting point for your claim.
- 4
Extraction
Pulls standing water out of floors and carpet with powered extraction equipment.
- 5
Drying set up
Places air movers and dehumidifiers and explains how long they need to run and how the readings will be checked.
Have these ready when you call
- Your ZIP code and cross street
- Where the water came from, if you know
- Which rooms and floors are wet
- Whether the water is still coming in
- Whether it is clean water, a drain, or sewage
- Your insurer's name, if you plan to claim
Richardson homes and late-night leaks
Many Richardson houses are single-story ranches on slab foundations from the 1950s to the 1970s, with water heaters in garages or closets and supply lines in the attic. A failed attic line or a water heater that lets go overnight can run for hours before anyone notices, and water on a slab spreads sideways into every room it can reach.
Newer homes and townhomes around CityLine and the Telecom Corridor bring different risks: stacked bathrooms, shared walls and second-floor laundry rooms. In those, the first sign is often a ceiling stain in the room below.
